We are pleased to announce that Barren County is approved for 2018-19 school year to continue the Non-Traditional Instruction Plan known as iLearn@home.  The Barren County School District will join over 83 other school districts to look at instruction on snow days (or other days school would not be in session) differently.

iLearn@home packets went home with all children on Monday, November 26th.  If your child did not receive/bring home their iLearn@home packet, or if you have any questions regarding your child’s ilearn@home packet, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.

The Barren County School District will be utilizing FIVE weather related closing days as iLearn@home days but, at the discretion of the superintendent and district leadership, there will not be more than 3 days the same week.  Schools are preparing now for Dec 1st - as this is the date that all schools will be ready to implement should weather require us to use these days.  Be looking for information from our schools for students and parents so they will know what to expect if weather dictates a closing in the coming weeks.  Read more about it the state approved waiver here.

Thanksgiving Pumpkin Dump Cake

Pumpkin Cream Cheese Dump Cake

  • 8 oz. cream cheese
  • 3/4 C. powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp. milk
  • 1 can 29 oz. pumpkin puree
  • 1 can 12 oz. evaporated milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/4 C. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. pumpkin pie spice (if you use pumpkin pie filling you may not need this)
  • 1 yellow cake mix dry
  • 1/2 C. butter melted (sometimes I use a little more)
  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon sugar mixture optional
  • whipped cream

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9 X 14 pan.

Using a mixer (a KitchenAid or hand held) combine cream cheese, powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Set aside.

In a large bowl, combine pumpkin puree, evaporated milk, eggs, sugar, salt, and pumpkin pie spice. Pour into prepared pan.

Put cream cheese filling into a small Zip Lock bag, and snip off the tip the make a mini piping bag. Then pipe over the pumpkin filling.

Pour the dry cake mix over the cream cheese layer then poke holes using the end of a wooden spoon or a table knife through the cake mix until you hit the filling (not to the bottom of the pan).

Pour melted butter over the dry cake mix.

Sprinkle cinnamon sugar over the entire cake for extra flavor and crunch.

Bake for 40-50 minutes or until the top is browned and an inserted knife comes out clean.

Let cool and serve with whipped cream! (Store in fridge)
