Earthquakes can happen at any time and can have disastrous and far-reaching effects. The 2012 Great Central U.S. Shakeout on February 7, 2012, provides a timely and relevant opportunity for us all to put this reminder into practice by execising what to do when an earthquake strikes.

Barren County along with AmeriCorps will participate in the state wide Build a Bed project on April 14, 2012. Our goal is to build 20 beds for students in our community.

Ms. Debbie Weakly, from the Attorney General's Office, will be providing internet safety presentations to all Barren County Middle School students on January 26th and will offer a parent session at BCMS at 6:00pm. This event is open to the public and all parents are encouraged to attend.

WKU SUPER SATURDAYS FALL 2011
The Center For Gifted Studies offers opportunities for high ability students to broaden the scope of their interests and interact with other bright young people. Four mornings are spent with a small group of students exploring an area of interest with an instructor who has expertise in that field. The classes emphasize a hands-on, minds-on approach to learning in an environment in which creative and critical thinking are encouraged.

Gunnar Eaton competed with the 8th Grade FBU All American Team Kentucky in the Consolation game in San Antonio, Texas at Heroes Stadium against Massachusettes. Team Kentucky won the game 35-16.

A “Fight on Matt” benefit concert for Matt is planned for Saturday, April 16th at 7pm. at the Barren County High School Gym featuring Burly Cruz and the Bailey Birge Band. There will be concessions and a silent auction! Tickets are only $5 each and are available at Red Cross Elementary as well as all other Barren County Schools.

PLAN TO MAKE UP MISSED DAYS
Barren County Board of Education has taken action on a plan to address days of instruction we have missed due to an active Winter weather. In summary, the plan will call for students attending classes an additional 45 minutes over the course of 19 school days. We will be extending the school days beginning on March 7th through March 31st.

BC FBLA PARTICIPATES IN WALK FOR BABIES
Barren County Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) recently participated in the Barren County March for Babies, one of their many community service projects. FBLA members donated $528 to assist the other teams in raising over $21,400. For their efforts, Barren County FBLA was recognized as the Top Youth Team. Barren County FBLA members and advisers thank all who assisted by raising money for this community service project.
