TROJAN BASEBALL- DISTRICT TOURNAMENT

The Trojans Baseball game on Monday 5/20 will be aired at 6pm from Monroe County in the 15th District Tournament. It will be  on ESPN Radio 1230AM and we hope to also broadcast it on the internet at www.barrenschools.com.

A WONDERFUL YEAR

There have been too many wonderful things that have happened to the students in Barren County to mention, but everyone will agree that our students are OUTSTANDING at everything they do!  As we close this school year, we wish nothing but the best for the Class of 2013 and we look forward to another successful year.  We are BC!

BCHS JROTC MARKSMANSHIP COMPETITION

The Barren County High School JROTC Department hosted their 1st Annual Trojan Battalion Postal Air Rifle Match. Barren County High School, Allen County High School, Warren Central High School, and Warren East High School participated in the event.

SUMMER CAMPS: BARREN SCHOOLS 21ST CENTURY COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTERS


Barren County Schools 21st Century Commnity Learning Centers presents Summer Scholars Opportunities, which include summer camps for students of all ages.  We are providing camps at every Barren County School from May through August.  In addition Barren County School District is also offering childcare services at Red Cross Elementary from May 23rd through July 26th, 2013.  Click learn more for detalis. 

SENIOR TRIBUTE VIDEO ORDER FORM

To receive your video graduation night, this form must be turned in by Thursday, May 16th.  Anyone turning in order forms after Thursday, May 16th will be required to pick them up in the front office the week after graduation. PLTW - PATHWAY OF ENGINEERING

Barren County Schools is excited to announce the addition of the second Project Lead the Way career pathway, Engineering and Design, to Trojan Academy and Barren County High School.

MCCONNELL CENTER'S YOUNG LEADERS ACADEMY
Kentucky students, grades 9-12, are eligible to apply for the Young Leaders Academy, a summer residential leadership conference at the University of Louisville. The McConnell Center offers this annual program to outstanding high school students to help hone their leadership skills and further their understanding of American history.  Applications are due May 15.
BCHS CHEERLEADERS ARE HOLDING A CHEER CLINIC

May 23rd & 24th, 2013 from 9:00 am-12:30 at the Barren County High School Trojan Academy Gym. The clinic is open to students in grades Preschool-8.  Cost for each participant is $35 per child which includes t-shirt, snacks, drinks, and experienced cheer instruction or $30 per child without a t-shirt.

Barren County High School, May 30, 2013, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
TeachMeet is a unique experience often referred to as an “Unconference” where attendees rotate between 20 minute info sessions focusing on educational technology. 
Topics such as; Web 2.0 tools, learning management systems,wikis, blogs, social networks, Google tools, Lync, Skype, and much  more. 

Door prizes and goodies will be given away at the SmackDown closing session.
Registration and breakfast begin at 8:00 am.

BARREN COUNTY TROJAN BOYS SOCCER CAMP

Boys summer soccer camp will be held on July 10th, 11th & 12th, 2013 at Barren Soccer Complex from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.  The camp is open to ages 5-14 years.

BCHS TROJANETTE SOFTBALL CAMP

BCHS Trojanette Softball Camp will be held on July 17, 18, 19, 2013 at the Barren County High School softball field.  Any girl in grades 1-8 are welcome to attend. The cost is $30.  For more information contact coach Kevin Jackson at Barren County High School.
 
 
BARREN COUNTY SUMMER VOLLEYBALL CAMP 2013

Barren County High School will be having a summer volleyball camp for girls entering 1st - 9th grades.   The camp will be held July 22, 23, & 24 in the BCHS gym.  Grades 1-4 will attend from 9:00 am - 12:00 Noon & grades 5-9 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm.

2013-2014 BCHS CHEERLEADERS ANNOUNCED

On Friday, April 12, the Barren County High School Cheerleaders were selected for the 2013-2014 school year.

8TH GRADE ORIENTATION

 Barren County High School Trojan Academy hosted 8th Grade Orientation on Feb. 21, and it was a great success with over 200 participants visiting Trojan Academy.  Information was shared about registration for classes, course offerings, as well as activities and clubs offered to BCHS students.  For those who were unable to attend, please review the link to the informational Power Point Presentation.  Barren Beyond the Bell in conjunction with Trojan Extreme hosted this event.

FARMERS RECC WASHINGTON YOUTH TOUR

Three deserving high school juniors from the Farmers RECC service area may be awarded expense-paid trips to Washington, D.C. in June of this year as participants in the 2013 Rural Electric Washington Youth Tour Program sponsored jointly by Farmers RECC and the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives. This is the 27th year that Farmers RECC has sponsored the Washington Youth Tour Program.

Tour winners will spend a week touring Gettysburg, the Smithsonian Institute, Arlington National Cemetery, the FBI Building, Library of Congress, U.S. Capitol, the White House, the Kennedy Center, The Holocaust Museum and Thomas Jefferson’s home, Monticello, plus a visit with Kentucky's congressional delegation and perhaps even the President of the United States.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  The deadline to apply is March 15, 2013.

THE GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL FOR ENTRPRENEURS
The Governor's School for Entrepreneurs (GSE) is an entrepreneurship program designed to give Kentucky high school students a hands-on opportunity to invent a product and create a business around it. Students will come ready to roll up their sleeves, work as a team, and create something that provides a real world solution. GSE's unique program brings teachers, schools, universities, graduate students, start-up technology companies, experienced entrepreneurs, scientists and engineers all together into a dynamic summer learning experience. The GSE Summer Program will be held June 9th-29th 2013!  The deadline to apply is  February 15, 2013.  Applications and information are available online at http://gse.kstc.com/
WOMEN IN STEM HIGH SCHOOL AEROSPACE SCHOLARS PROGRAM
WISH wants female high school juniors from across the country to participate in our pilot project! Your adventure starts with an online community and culminates with a summer experience at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Summer 2013.  Information is available online at http://www.nasa.gov/education/wish
MURRAY STATE COMMONWEALTH HONORS ACADEMY
The Commonwealth Honors Academy is a challenging three-week academic, social and personal growth program for outstanding high school students who have completed their junior year and will return to high school as a senior in the fall following the academy.  Students will be selected from the Commonwealth and surround regions.  Upon successfully completion of the Academy, students will: 
  • receive six hours of university credit
  • have the opportunity to take six hours of tuition-free university courses at Murray State University during the subsequent academic year
  • be awarded a four-year, renewable $2,000 housing scholarship to attend Murray State University

GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS
The Governors School for the Arts is an arts education program of The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts that provides arts training through a free three-week summer residential program that instructs students in one of nine art forms--architecture, creative writing, dance, drama, instrumental music, musical theatre, new media, visual art and vocal music. GSA is now accepting applications from Kentucky high school sophomores and juniors for the summer program. Applications are available online www.kentuckygsa.org. The application deadline is December 31, 2012.
GOVERNOR'S SCHOLARS APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE ONLINE
Governor's Scholars Program Applications are now available online.  Any junior who wishes to apply for the 5 week summer program will need to fill out the application.  The deadline to have the application to Mrs. Jones is November 16.  For applications and helpful hints, visit GSP online at www.gsp.ky.gov
PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS

COURTNEY SCOBY ATTENDS WHY CHOOSE LAW PROGRAM

Tori Buckley placed 4th at the National Beta Convention in North Carolina in the Oratory Competition.  Tori will also be attending Gatton Academy this year.  Congratulations Tori!  We are proud of you!
NICK KINGREY ATTENDS THE 2012 WHY CHOOSE LAW PROGRAM
On tuesday June 5, 2012 Nick Kingrey was one of twelve students attending the  Why Choose Law program on behalf of the Young Lawyers Program of the Kentucky Bar Association. The morning was spent at U of L Brandeis School of Law meeting with several different lawyers, judges and magistrates. They also discussed a trial they were given to read before arriving on tuesday. The afternoon consisted of a tour of the Jefferson County Judicial Center, the Law Firm of Stoll, Keenon and Ogden. Students also watched the Mock Trial Team of Montgomery County High School act out a trial.
