to Recognize Public School District Leadership

 Kathy Burkhardt, Thomas Matthews Chosen as Exemplars of Leadership

 

Frankfort, Ky.  – (May 6) – Superintendents Kathy Burkhardt (Erlanger/-Elsmere School District) and Thomas “Bo” Matthews (Barren County Schools) are profiled in a national campaign showcasing school districts where outstanding leadership has resulted in meaningful and measurable outcomes for schools, students and communities.

The series, Superintendent Spotlight, is part of the “Leaders Matter” initiative created by AASA, The School Superintendents Association, which is boldly supported by the Kentucky Association of School Administrators.

“As an advocate for strong public schools, I am so excited to see Superintendents Kathy Burkhardt and Bo Matthews being profiled in AASA’s Leaders Matter campaign,” said V. Wayne Young, executive director, Kentucky Association of School Administrators. “These two individuals are outstanding ambassadors for school district leadership. The contributions they’re making have an extraordinary impact on the students in their respective communities. I am proud of these fine educators.”  

As noted in their profiles, examples of exemplary leadership by Burkhardt and Matthews include the following:

Burkhardt

  • Demonstrate strong leadership in community heavy impacted by poverty
  • Demonstrated leadership at local, state, and national levels
  • Maintains high expectations for all who serve the district

Matthews

  • Demonstrated success in creating and sustain career-readiness programs
  • Leadership in preparing students for workplace

“As Kentucky continues to strengthen its public schools, administrators across the state have strong allies in Kathy Burkhardt and Bo Matthews. I am pleased that they are being featured in this important campaign,” added Young.  

Public education is the bedrock of Kentucky. As public schools succeed, so too will the students in the state’s nearly 200 public school districts. The focus of AASA’s Leaders Matter campaign, which includes the Superintendent Spotlight series, is to illustrate the positive contributions being made by public school leaders such as Burkhardt and Matthews.
