Kathy Burris was named Elementary Director of Instruction for Barren County Schools on Friday, June 21.
Burris currently serves as Teacher Consultant for Programs, holding that position since 2013. Burris has spent her entire career in the Barren County District. She worked at the elementary level for twenty years, serving as a classroom teacher, special education teacher and lead teacher.
Mrs. Burris graduated from Western Kentucky University with Bachelor's Degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education. She received her Master's Degree in counseling from WKU, her Rank I in elementary Education from Indiana Wesleyan University, and her Director of Special Education from the University of the Cumberlands.
Bo Matthews, Superintendent of Barren County Schools, stated, "There were several qualified candidates that expressed interest in the position. It was clear, after the process concluded, that Kathy Burris was the one to lead the district in this capacity." Barren County Assistant Superintendent Cortni Crews said, "The best educational leaders are the ones that never forget what it is like to be a teacher, and that's Kathy Burris."

Burris plans to approach the position with innovative thinking that will both expand existing programs and create new initiatives that lead students to success. Mrs. Burris will officially begin her duties July 1.
