Barren County Schools is pleased to announce Dr. Billy Joe Murphy as the district’s new Director of Nutrition Services.
Dr. Murphy brings 14 years of experience in public education and currently serves as principal of Monroe County Middle School. Throughout his career, he has served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal, building a strong reputation for student-centered leadership and a commitment to creating positive school environments.
Dr. Murphy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Kinesiology and Health Promotion from the University of Kentucky and earned his Master’s degree, Education Specialist degree, and Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of the Cumberlands.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Murphy to Barren County Schools,” said Superintendent Amy Irwin. “His background as an educator and administrator, combined with his experience supporting student nutrition programs, makes him a strong fit for this role. He understands the important connection between nutrition, wellness, and student success.”
Dr. Murphy said he is excited for the opportunity to serve students and families in Barren County.
“I’m honored to join Barren County Schools and look forward to working with the Nutrition Services team,” said Murphy. “Providing healthy meals and creating positive experiences plays a vital role in the education experience for students. I’m eager and excited to serve.”
As Director of Nutrition Services, Dr. Murphy will oversee the district’s school meal programs, nutrition operations, and efforts to ensure students have access to healthy, high-quality meals each day.
