Yesterday was a big day at Red Cross Elementary! Fourth-grader Jackson Farmer tried out the Jackson 1 Beta Hand, a custom 3D-printed prosthetic hand that STEAM Lab Teacher Scott Johnson designed and built just for him! This project has been months in the making, inspired by a conversation with Jackson's mother and brought to life through research, design, and collaboration with the incredible global E-Nable community. We are so proud of the innovation happening right here in Barren County Schools and even prouder of Jackson’s determination, courage, and smile, which remind us why we do what we do. As we wrap up Safe Schools Week, remember that safety doesn’t stop here. Students and parents can always report concerns anonymously through the STOP Tipline, which you can find on our district website, or you can call directly at 866-393-6659. When we speak up, we look out for one another, and that’s how we keep our schools safe, every day.

Suicide Prevention Week – Thought for the Day:
How can you recognize when someone might be struggling? Watch for changes—withdrawal from friends, loss of interest in activities, mood shifts, or talk of feeling hopeless. Noticing the signs is the first step toward offering help. If you or someone you know needs support, call or text 988 anytime.

Parents play a key role in online safety. Take time to check in on your child’s digital world—review privacy settings, set healthy screen limits, and talk about what’s safe to share online. Together, we can stop problems before they start.

Suicide Prevention Week - Thought for the Day: What does it take to spark hope? A simple “How are you really doing?” can open the door to hope. Don’t be afraid to check in on a friend or loved one. Your words matter.

For support, call or text 988 anytime.

Kentucky Safe Schools Week - Today's Focus: Conversation. One of the best ways parents can help keep schools safe is by keeping the conversation going at home. Open-ended questions like “What was the best part of your day?” or “Did anything worry you today?” encourage children to share their feelings and experiences. When students feel heard, they’re more likely to speak up if something is wrong. Talking builds trust—and trust creates the safe, supportive environment every child deserves.

🫛🌿 Snapping into learning at Barren County Middle!

As part of our Barren Beyond the Bell program, Coordinator Amanda Shirley and staff member Kelsey Gregg helped students fill 15 raised garden beds with Sugar Snap Peas. Together, they’re digging into lessons that go far beyond the classroom . They are learning teamwork, responsibility, and the pride of growing something with their own hands. 💪✨

Before long, these sweet peas will be ready to harvest and head from the garden to the cafeteria, giving students a real taste of their hard work! 🍴🌱
